Anyone can win a State BBQ Contest if they have a plan and stick to it, pay
attention to detail, and pray a lot, an awful
lot.

Fairbanks BBQ King wins big at the
2007 Alaska BBQ Championships
July 22, 2007
Harold Groetsema, the King of BBQ in Alaska,
retains 3 year title for Best Brisket in Alaska at the Alaska State BBQ Championships held
at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The competition was particularly close this
year as the event is gaining national fame.
Teams from as far away as Texas recognize
the Alaska State BBQ Championship as a path
to the Jack Daniels National Championship
in Lynchburg Tennessee. We were out
to show them otherwise
Bottom line is that Big Daddy's BarB-Q team
beat out the Texans in the food item they
are best known for . . . the Brisket.
How does an Alaskan beat out a Texan at Brisket?
We're not telling. The Brisket we prepared
at the competition is prepared exactly the
same as what we serve at Big Daddy's BarB-Q
Restaurant. Same source for our meat,
same secret rub, same 12 hour slow cook,
same everything except for the extra care
we take in our presentation. Take a look at our presentation and you'll
understand why the Texans didn't stand a
chance.
Big Daddy's BarB-Q has won 1st Place for
Brisket in the Alaska State Championship
in 3 out of the last 3 years.
Big Daddy's BarB-Q received 3 other awards
at the 2007
Alaskan BBQ
Championship, including
- 1st Place for Best of Alaskan Seafood,
- 3rd Place for Best of Pork Butt, and
- 3rd Place for Best of Chicken.
